A connected art teacher
I am an art teacher who understands the world of today's students. Our kids are getting more and more connected in ways that change every day. Emerging trends and new media dictate that teachers connect with students at their level and provide chances for kids to take ownership of creative experiences. After eleven years of teaching in wildly varied environments, I have developed a teaching philosophy centered on individuality and creative effort. My students are compared only to themselves and are expected to work just outside thier comfort zone. In the classroom I favor large-scale group projects and non-traditional art materials. I believe all kids want to create and can experience success making something new.

STUDENT AND PARENT COMMENTS
IN BRIEF: 11 years of experience in traditional and cyber classrooms, PA K-12 Art Level II Certified, Masters in Art Education, and ESL experience
An active artist
My work ranges from traditional etchings in four-color to mixed media electric collage. I am currently making artwork with whatever is on hand, and after too many years of dormancy, I am working to get my art into galleries and shows across Philadelphia. I hope you enjoy these recent examples.
An educational technologist with 21st century skills
Teaching online while the e-learning movement has exploded across the country makes me uniquely situated to understand and harness the emerging tools of educational technology. Having seen the possibilites of working with students in an electronic classroom, I can now transfer those skills to many environments. Wed-based technologies offer new classroom management models along with new ways for students to share and create across disciplines and media. Schools recongize that students are wired in countless ways and will not likely unplug anytime soon. My technology skills assure that I bring a level of connectedness that allows me to relate to students and bring them into more dynamic conversations about creativity.
Student, parent and supervisor comments
Well thanks for being a great teacher! Will I have you next year? That would be really cool. I love art:). I'm still deciding if I want my future to be involved with art or if i want to be a lawyer. - Sarah O.
We got home from the State competition yesterday to find an AMAZING yearbook in our mailbox. Thank you for all your hard work on it. It looks great. It's really cool to get to see the kids. - Mrs. Desch
Thanks for all your help and patience with me throughout the year... I still have some assignments to work on for a "B", because I didn't want to "just" pass. - Drew F.
Aaron,
I hear you handled some parents last night for the Middle College High School. Thanks for being there and willing to speak to them. Many teachers at other schools would have said "It's not my problem", and sent them away. - Jon Marsh (school director)
Hi Mr. A.,
Just want to thank you for all your efforts to pull together the field trip to the Barnes Foundation. We felt like we were in Masterpiece Magicland, and the snow only served to enhance the beauty of the day.
Thanks again! - Mrs. Match
Hey Mr. Aaron,
Hopefully I'll talk to you before the year is out, but if not, I just wanted to say thanks, for everything this year. You taught me so much about photography, and how to really make a picture work. I'm glad I took this class. And in case I haven't already told you, I wanted you to know. I'm hoping to become a photojournalist after college, that's really what I want to major in!. - Lori Anne G.
Thank you for putting my picture on the slideshow! - Amber K.
